Racing yard software — lots, welfare and owners in one app
A racing yard runs on lots, not appointments: who rides what in first lot, second lot and on through the morning, and how each horse felt afterwards. Horsepower gives trainers and head lads a lots board that stays off the calendar, a quick daily welfare check, and every horse's vaccinations and treatments with reminders — on every rider's phone.
What racing yards use most
- Lots board — Plan the morning lot by lot: tap a lot, pick the rider and the horse. Copy yesterday's plan in one tap and change what's different. No times, nothing on the calendar.
- Riders log every ride — Each rider sees just their own lots, in order. After each one they tap how the horse felt — Good, OK or Concern — the work (walk, trot, canter, gallop, horse walker, swim) and a note.
- Concerns reach you straight away — A rider who flags a concern has to say what they noticed. It lands on the horse's welfare record, on your Today screen and as a notification to the yard's managers.
- Daily welfare checks — Seven quick looks per horse — coat, eyes, limbs, droppings, appetite, water, demeanour — with body condition score, photos and a CSV for inspections and insurers.
- Flu jabs and treatments on time — Set vaccinations to 6-monthly boosters and every horse's next due date moves on as jabs are logged. Read a passport's vaccination page with your phone camera instead of typing it in.
- Race log with rest periods — Each horse keeps its official rating and its races — course, class and rating band, distance in furlongs, going, the rating it ran off, result and jockey — with the days off afterwards. Horses still resting show on the lots board, so nobody puts one out by mistake.
- Staff rota and time clock — Plan shifts, copy last week, handle time off in the app, and let staff clock in and out for a timesheet you can export for payroll.
A morning in the app
The night before or first thing, the head lad opens the lots board, copies the last day's plan and swaps the few horses that are different. Riders open My lots on their phone and see their horses in order.
After each lot they log it in a few taps. The board fills in as the morning goes — 9 of 14 ridden — and anything that didn't feel right is already on the horse's record before the riders are back in the yard. Each horse's page keeps its rides, lot by lot, with who rode it and how it went.
Keeping owners in the loop
Owners can have their own free login to follow their horses — records, treatments, photos and yard news — and invited people never cost you anything. For a quick update, a private share link shows one horse's page without an account.
Training fees and extras can be logged as they happen and invoiced from Horsepower with a pay-online link, or drafted into Xero or QuickBooks.
The rest of the yard
Feed plans with a one-tap Fed log, a medicine and feed store with stock levels, horsebox and trailer reminders for MOT, insurance and service, trot-up videos you can compare side by side, and yard messaging with photos and video.
What it doesn't do
Horsepower doesn't make race entries or declarations, keep form, or connect to the BHA or Weatherbys. It runs the yard side: who rides what, how each horse is, and the records behind them.
Questions
Does it cost extra for riders and owners?
No. You pay for the yard — free for up to 3 horses, £9.99 a month up to 20, £19.99 a month above that — and every rider, member of staff and owner you invite is free.
Do the lots go on the calendar?
No. The lots board is separate from the calendar, so planning thirty rides a morning doesn't bury the vet visits and farrier rounds.
Can a rider see other riders' horses?
Riders see the whole board so they know who's out in each lot, but they can only log their own rides. Only the yard's managers can plan and change other people's lots.
Can it handle 6-monthly flu boosters?
Yes. Set the vaccination interval to 6 months and logging each jab moves the next due date on, with reminders before it's due. The free flu vaccination checker also checks dates against racing rules.
Free for up to 3 horses; everyone you invite is free. Start free.
