Dressage score calculator

Enter the marks from your dressage sheet to get the total and percentage. Set the number of movements, mark each out of 10 (half marks allowed), double any movement with a coefficient of 2, add the collective marks and any errors of course, and the calculator works out the final percentage, or elimination. Pick who you ride under (British Dressage, FEI, USEF / USDF, Equestrian Australia, Dressage NZ, Equestrian Canada, Dressage Ireland or a custom penalty); it starts from your country.

How a dressage score is worked out

  1. Each movement is marked out of 10 by the judge.
  2. Movements with a coefficient of 2 count double, both the mark and the marks available.
  3. The collective marks are added the same way, often with some coefficients of 2.
  4. Penalties for errors of course are taken off the total.
  5. The percentage is the final total divided by the maximum possible, times 100.

Always check the specific test sheet for the number of movements, the coefficients and the current penalty rules, which differ between organisations and change from time to time.

Frequently asked questions

How is a dressage percentage calculated?

Multiply each mark by its coefficient and add them up, including the collective marks, then take off any penalties. Divide by the maximum possible (10 times every coefficient) and multiply by 100.

What are the penalties for an error of course in dressage?

Under British Dressage rules at the time of writing, the first error costs 2 marks, the second 4 more, and the third means elimination. Under FEI rules the first error costs 2 percentage points and the second means elimination, and USEF uses 2, 4 and then elimination. Rules change, so check the current rulebook for your test.

What is a good dressage score?

As a rough guide, scores in the 60s are solid and around 70% and above is very good. Placings depend on the class, so compare with the rest of the class.
