Check how much land your horses have against common stocking guidelines, and plan a rotation so each paddock gets time to rest. Enter your grazing area in acres or hectares, the number of horses and paddocks, and whether they live out full-time or part-time. The calculator shows the area per horse, how it compares with guidance, and how many days to graze each paddock and rest it.
A widely quoted UK rule of thumb is about 1–1.5 acres (0.4–0.6 ha) for the first horse and 0.5–1 acre (0.2–0.4 ha) for each additional horse, where grazing provides most of their forage. Horses stabled for part of the day and fed hay need less. Grass quality, soil, drainage and the time of year all matter as much as the area.
The land is split into the number of paddocks you give, grazed one at a time. Each paddock rests while the others are used, aiming for around four to six weeks' recovery.
Pick your country and the calculator uses that guidance, in acres (with hectares alongside) or hectares.

Aim for around four to six weeks' rest between grazing spells, moving horses on before the grass is grazed too short or the ground starts to poach.
