Horse management app cost — what you'll actually pay (UK, 2026)
Free for up to three horses. £9.99 a month up to twenty. £19.99 a month above that. Everyone you invite is free, however many. The free tier is the whole app rather than a trial: records, treatments and due-date reminders, the shared calendar, feeds, field maps and turnout, yard jobs, messaging, forms and practitioner logins. Start free — you can add a card later or never.
What the market charges
UK and US horse and yard management apps generally land in three bands. Free or nearly-free personal apps for one or two horses, with no shared-yard features. Mid-range yard software at roughly £10–£30 a month, which is where most livery yards end up. And enterprise-style systems running to several hundred a year, usually quoted rather than listed and often with setup fees — much of that price is the sales process rather than the software, since multiple yards, livery invoicing, practitioner logins and unlimited members are all in Horsepower Max at £19.99 a month. Several charge per user as well as per horse, which is what turns a quoted £15 a month into £60 once the owners and the farrier have logins.
What actually drives the price
- Horses, or people, or both. Per-horse pricing is predictable; per-user pricing punishes you for the thing you want — everyone on the yard actually using it. Check which you're being quoted before comparing headline numbers.
- Billing and invoicing. Livery billing is usually the feature that moves you up a tier. Horsepower includes recurring livery charges and one-off extras, invoiced from Horsepower or drafted into Xero or QuickBooks, on the paid plans.
- Apps, or a website that looks like one. A yard runs on phones in a cold barn. Native iOS and Android cost more to build and some tools charge for them separately.
- Per-yard add-ons. Extra sites, extra staff seats and SMS reminders are common paid extras elsewhere. Horsepower includes multiple yards on the paid plans.
Is free actually enough?
For a private yard with up to three horses, genuinely yes — that's the whole feature set with no expiry, and the people you share it with never cost anything. You'd move to Pro when you pass three horses or want livery invoicing. Most small liveries sit on Pro; Max is for yards past twenty horses or running several sites.
